Shopping on line can be easy, simple and save you lots of money. It can also take a lot of your time, frustrate you, and result in unwanted purchases. Now the same can be said for regular high street shopping, but with the vast opportunity presented by the Internet it will pay you to spend a few minutes reading this and understanding how to better optimize your Vons shopping experience:

1. Compare - without doubt the biggest advantage that the Vons offers shoppers today is the ability to compare thousands of Vons at a time. This is a great thing, but not necessarily all the time! Too much can be daunting at times so take advantage of the great comparison sites and where possible let them do the hard work for you.

2. Research - if it has been said it will be on the internet. Ignorance is no longer a justifiable reason for buying the wrong thing. Take the time to research in detail everything that you could possible want to know about

3. Testimonials - don't know anybody that has bought a Vons? Wrong! If the Vons is good the internet will let you know. Use the Internet as a friend and get testimonials before you buy.

4. Questions - Got a question about Vons then search the Forums, FAQ's, Blogs etc. Don't be afraid to ask .....

5. Reputation - Never heard of the company selling Vons? Don't worry, no reason why you should know every company in the world, but you know someone that does! Use the internet to find out what people are saying about Vons and build up a picture of their reputation for sales, returns, customer service, delivery etc.

6. Returns - still worried that even after all of the above your Vons wont be what you want? Check out the returns policy. There is so much competition now that someone, somewhere is bound to offer the terms that you are comfortable with.

7. Feedback - happy with your Vons then let people know, after all you are depending on others people input in your buying decision, so why not give a little back.

8. Security - check for the yellow padlock on the Vons site before you buy, and the s after http:/ /i.e. https:// = a secure site

9. Contact - got a question about Vons, or want to leave a comment then check out the sites contact page. Reputable companies have them and respond.

10. Payment - ready to pay for your Vons, then use your credit card or PayPal! Be aware of companies that don't accept them, there may be genuine reasons but given the huge amount of choice you have when buying online there is no reason at all not to buy via credit card or PayPal.

Vons (formerly Von's) is a Southern California supermarket chain (it also operates locations in and around Las Vegas, Nevada), and is a division of Safeway Inc. It is headquartered in Arcadia, California.

History Charles Von der Ahe opened a cash and carry store named Von's Groceteria in downtown Los Angeles, California, in 1906. The business had grown to 87 stores by 1928, when he sold the operation to McMarr Stores (itself acquired by Marion Barton Skaggs' Safeway in 1930). In 1932 his sons Ted and Wilfred re-entered the business, founding the Von's Grocery Company.

In 1948, Von's opened a pioneering store which offered self-service (i.e., pre-packaged) produce, meat, and deli items. By 1958, it had doubled in size to 27 stores, the third-largest grocery chain in the Greater Los Angeles Area. In 1960 it acquired the sixth-largest, competitor Shopping Bag Food Stores, a merger that was challenged by the Federal Trade Commission on antitrust grounds. In 1966 the United States Supreme Court ruled against Von's in United States v. Von's Grocery Co. (384 U.S. 270), forcing a re-divestiture of the stores. The Von der Ahe family sold the chain to HSBC Finance (now HSBC Finance) in 1969.

1980s, 1990s In 1984, Vons was named official supermarket of the 1984 Summer Olympics.

In 1986 Household spun off Vons Companies in a leveraged buyout. To recapitalize itself, Vons merged with Detroit, Michigan-based Allied Supermarkets and sold off its assets outside California. Vons was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1987.

Also in 1986, Vons introduced Pavilions (supermarket)‎, a "combination store" concept which offered a wider variety of upscale products as well as pharmacy and other non-food products and services.

Safeway, Inc. withdrew from Southern California and Southern Nevada in 1988 and sold most of its stores to Vons in exchange for an ownership stake. In April 1997, Safeway exercised its option to acquire control of the company, and Vons has since operated as a subsidiary. Most of the Safeway brands and advertising campaigns are used by the Vons stores.

The Charles Von der Ahe Library is the main library of Loyola Marymount University (LMU). Its construction was made possible by a 1957 gift from the Von's Foundation. Will Von der Ahe was an alumnus of LMU's predecessor, Loyola University Los Angeles.
